| Using the degree in India | A medical degree earned here does not by itself allow practice in India. Under the National Medical Commission (Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate) Regulations, 2021, an Indian citizen must hold an NMC eligibility certificate before enrolling and must clear the NMC screening examination (FMGE) to register in India. The regulations also set conditions on course duration, language of instruction and clinical training completed in the country of study. | For most academic subjects there is no separate Indian licensing step. Regulated professions — medicine, nursing, law, architecture, accountancy — are each governed by their own Indian regulator, and a foreign qualification is not automatically accepted. Confirm the position with that regulator before you enrol, not after you graduate. |
