Can I practise medicine in India with a foreign medical degree?
Short answer
Not automatically. A foreign medical qualification does not by itself confer a licence to practise in India. The National Medical Commission sets the conditions. Confirm the current route on the NMC website before you enrol abroad.
What this means
Indian licensing for doctors is governed by the National Medical Commission, not by the foreign university and not by an agent. Completing an MBBS-equivalent programme overseas does not, on its own, let you practise in India.
The conditions — including screening or licensing examinations, and the standards a foreign graduate must meet — are published by NMC and can change. Read the current NMC material, not a brochure.
